5 Ways to Upgrade your Garage
Father’s day is coming up this weekend, and we know dad can be tough to shop for. Sometimes functional gifts can be the most thoughtful, so we pulled together several ideas to spruce up his space in the garage!
Look vertically and at the walls for creative storage solutions! Pegboard is a classic and inexpensive wall storage choice, but recently PVC or aluminum slatwall storage has been extremely popular. It’s easy to install and clean, and with many different hooks and attachments it will get your clutter off the ground. Overhead racks and garage cabinets also get items off the floor and concealed.
2. Venting and Insulation
It’s not pleasant to spend any amount of time in the garage when the space is freezing cold or stuffy hot. It’s worthwhile to insulate the walls properly, and to add venting windows to any of the service doors. Zabitat can help – from clear venting windows to energy efficient low-e to grilles to privacy. Don’t forget to insulate your service doors as well with weather stripping and new door sweeps!
A dark garage is unappealing and also unsafe. Darkness limits the time of day when the space can be utilized! Install adequate LED lighting – these are bright, long-lasting, and kinder to your energy bill. If you really want to push this upgrade, have an electrician install motion-sensitive lights.
4. Easy-to-clean Floors
An epoxy finish painted on the floors makes them attractive and easy to clean. Concrete is porous until painted or sealed, so water and oil from your car can stain it until it’s finished. Not only does an epoxy finish make it easy to clean, but choosing a light color improves the appearance and overall brightness of the garage space.
5. Adding Outlets
It sounds silly and minor, but wiring some extra outlets can make a huge difference in the functionality of a garage workshop! Consider choosing outlets that combine grounded plugs with USB ports. Also, make sure there are dedicated circuits so any shop tools won’t overload multiple-outlet circuits. An electrician can help with this.
